Carving
in the round uses great many gouges and veneers tools shaped especially to make
a particular cut in the wood. With many tools we will have a greater range and
freedom to carve exactly what we want out of the wood. A beginner carver would
start out with twelve to seventeen tools. As his skill progressed he could easily
accumulate thirty to sixty tools.
There is basically only two types of hand woodcarving
- CHIP CARVING
- CARVING IN THE ROUND
Chip carving is flat plain carving and uses only a flat knife. Generally
the subject carved are six to eight inches tall and my not have great detail.
